Frequently Asked Questions
Real timber on top, a stable core underneath. The top layer (the lamella) is the timber you see and walk on. The core is what keeps the board steady: Australian Native and Naked Oak use a Hevea core, while Genuine Oak, Genuine Ash and Hurford’s Parquetry use a plywood core.
Solid boards are timber all the way through. Engineered boards have a timber surface bonded to a core, and that core keeps them stable, which makes engineered floors better suited to modern homes. If you would rather have timber all the way through, have a look at our solid flooring range.
The Australian Native family: Australian Native, Australian Native Optimise, Australian Native Herringbone and Australian Native Optimise Herringbone. Species include Blackbutt, Rustic Blackbutt and Spotted Gum, with Blue Gum and Brush Box in some ranges. Burleigh Floors is another Australian option, in Blackbutt, Spotted Gum and Roasted Peat, and HM Walk has an Australian hardwood surface too. Prefer oak or ash? Look at Genuine Oak, Naked Oak or Genuine Ash.
It depends on the floor. HM Walk can be floated or direct glued, Burleigh Floors can be glued down or floated, and prefinished Naked Oak can be floated, and both Naked Oak finishes can be direct glued, stapled or nailed down. Australian Native uses a licensed Välinge locking system for quick installation. Australian Native Herringbone is direct glued and Hurford’s Parquetry is full bed adhesive fixed, and for both we recommend a qualified tradesperson with the right experience. Several can. Naked Oak, HM Walk and Australian Native Herringbone can all be installed over concrete, as well as over wood and plywood. HM Walk can also go over particleboard flooring. For other floors, check the product page first.
Yes, with the RAW options. Genuine Oak (260/20, 240/15 and 190/15 sizes), Genuine Ash and Naked Oak come RAW: sanded, square edged and unfinished, ready to stain and finish on site. Hurford’s Parquetry has an unfinished, uncoated RAW option too. Genuine Ash also comes prefinished in six stains: Autumn, Coastal, Drift, Harvest, Nutmeg and Sandbar.
Some can. Naked Oak, HM Walk and Hurford’s Parquetry can be installed over subfloor heating. Australian Native Herringbone isn’t suited to it. For the other ranges, check the product page or call the team on 07 3442 6300 before you choose.
